ABSTRACT
In a dynamic environment, it is critical for institutions particularly those in the educational sector to focus on motivating their staff by creating a conducive working environment and appropriate training and career development to increase the performance of employees.
The main objective of this research is to investigate the impact of employees’ motivation on organizational performance at the University of Buea found in the South West Region of Cameroon. Two elements of extrinsic employees’ motivation were taken into consideration that is working environment and training and development (independent variables while Organizational performance is dependent, which is aimed at finding out the cause and effect relationship between the two variables.
Questionnaires were used as the main instrument for collecting data and were issued electronically to 276 workers, but 268 were received, representing a total of 97.1% collected. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analyze the data. Two hypotheses were developed and tested using descriptive analysis, correlation coefficients (regression method), and Two-way ANOVA. The working environment was tested using linear regression and Two-way ANOVA was used to test training and development since the data was not normally distributed.
The results obtained show that there is a significant effect of both working environment and training and development on organizational performance. The study concluded by suggesting that the management should implement strategies to ensure that workers are motivated both internally and externally to increase their performance.
