The traditional way of always going to the shop to buy goods and carrying them back home has always been one problem to the other. Those with the means in carrying the goods have it easy but on the other hand, the number of individuals without means outnumbers the other group. Moreover, it has also improved the cashless transaction system for curbing the carrying of bulk money around. However, the introduction of electronic commerce has not only improved the lives of its users but has also arisen a variety of security challenges that impact negatively on its users’ privacy and reduce their confidence in performing electronic transactions due to the low level of security in user password hashing. To curtail these issues, different kinds of hashing algorithms have been proposed over the years to ensure user private information is protected as they are mostly used on various electronic transaction platforms. Some of the commonly known hash algorithms developed over the years are MD5, SHA1, SHA2, SHA3, SHA192, BCRYPT, SCRYPT, ARGON2, etc. With the number of proposed hashing algorithms, the research proposes the use of a hybrid combination of ARGON2i and ARGON2d in user password hashing. ABSTRACT
Electronic commerce has over the years been one of the most adopted and accepted
worldwide electronic transactions by the many populace. The traditional way of
always going to the shop to buy goods and carrying them back home has always been
one problem to the other. Those with the means in carrying the goods have it easy but
on the other hand, the number of individuals without means outnumbers the other
group. Moreover, it has also improved the cashless transaction system for curbing the
carrying of bulk money around. However, the introduction of electronic commerce has
not only improved the lives of its users but has also arisen a variety of security
challenges that impact negatively on its users’ privacy and reduce their confidence in
performing electronic transactions due to the low level of security in user password
hashing.
To curtail these issues, different kinds of hashing algorithms have been proposed over
the years to ensure user private information is protected as they are mostly used on
various electronic transaction platforms. Some of the commonly known hash
algorithms developed over the years are MD5, SHA1, SHA2, SHA3, SHA192,
BCRYPT, SCRYPT, ARGON2, etc. With the number of proposed hashing algorithms,
the research proposes the use of a hybrid combination of ARGON2i and ARGON2d
in user password hashing.
