To assess public perception and knowledge about the coronavirus, it is necessary to have a thorough grasp of public awareness and practices. This will make it easier to pinpoint characteristics that motivate people to adopt healthy behaviors and responsive behaviors (Podder et al., 2019). The purpose of this study is to evaluate university students' knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) regarding COVID-19 during the outbreak. This is a cross-sectional study, using data collected manually and online using a self-reported questionnaire in Google Docs, from 318 participants developed by Al-Hanawi et al., (2020). To assess the differences in mean scores, and identify factors associated with knowledge, attitudes, and practices toward COVID-19, the data were run through univariate regression analysis, Mann-Whitey U Test and descriptive statistics respectively. However, the results showed that men have less knowledge, less optimistic attitudes, and less good practice toward COVID-19, than women. According to this finding, this vulnerable population should get focused health education interventions since they are at a high risk of developing COVID-19. For instance, if health awareness campaigns are primarily aimed at men, COVID-19 knowledge may improve significantly. ABSTRACT
The COVID-19 pandemic has recently caused a serious decline in public health
throughout the world, and as a result, countries have taken extraordinary steps to
restrict the spread of the virus through infection prevention and control (IPC). To
assess public perception and knowledge about the coronavirus, it is necessary to have
a thorough grasp of public awareness and practices. This will make it easier to pinpoint
characteristics that motivate people to adopt healthy behaviors and responsive
behaviors (Podder et al., 2019). The purpose of this study is to evaluate university
students' knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) regarding COVID-19 during the
outbreak. This is a cross-sectional study, using data collected manually and online
using a self-reported questionnaire in Google Docs, from 318 participants developed
by Al-Hanawi et al., (2020). To assess the differences in mean scores, and identify
factors associated with knowledge, attitudes, and practices toward COVID-19, the data
were run through univariate regression analysis, Mann-Whitey U Test and descriptive
statistics respectively. However, the results showed that men have less knowledge, less
optimistic attitudes, and less good practice toward COVID-19, than women.
According to this finding, this vulnerable population should get focused health
education interventions since they are at a high risk of developing COVID-19. For
instance, if health awareness campaigns are primarily aimed at men, COVID-19
knowledge may improve significantly.
